Chanee Vijay

Chanee is a textile artist based in The Sea Ranch, CA, working in abstract collage with European hemp. Her practice draws on an attentiveness to landforms found along Sonoma County’s coastal terrain with materials collected after a decade of sustainable textile design. She translates this through muted, tonal shifts achieved by adding ink pigments to each piece of hemp, and pasting and sculpting the seams into organic forms that build movement and subtle relief. Once on the canvas, the raised edges coalesce into a singular, sculptural form - revealing an interplay of texture, shadow, and light
